Our story

Support that feels personal

Hi, I’m Jess.

I’m a qualified teacher, lifelong Lismore local, and the proud co-owner of Sage Tutor Northern Rivers alongside my husband, Matt. Together, we’re passionate about helping children and teenagers discover that they can learn, grow and succeed with the right support.

Teaching has always been more than a job for me—it’s something I genuinely love. I have experience teaching students from primary school through to senior secondary, with a particular passion for literacy, English and helping students build the confidence they need to thrive. Every student learns differently, and I believe the best learning happens when lessons are tailored to the individual, their strengths are celebrated, and they feel safe to make mistakes.

Our greatest teachers, though, have been our own children.

As parents of neurodiverse children, Matt and I understand the joys, challenges and unique strengths that come with seeing the world differently. We’ve experienced first-hand the school meetings, the homework battles, the advocacy, and the incredible moments when the right support helps a child realise their potential. Those experiences have shaped not only the way we parent, but also the way we teach.

They’ve inspired us to create a tutoring space where every child feels understood, valued and capable—whether they need support catching up, extending their learning, building confidence, or simply someone who teaches in a way that makes sense to them.

At Sage Tutor Northern Rivers, our goal isn’t just to improve marks. We want students to leave each session believing in themselves a little more than when they arrived. Confidence is often the key that unlocks learning, and we’re committed to helping every student experience success in a way that works for them.

Being born and raised in Lismore, I’m incredibly proud to support families in the community that has always been home. I understand the resilience of our region and feel privileged to work alongside local families, helping students achieve their goals and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Whether your child needs support with literacy and numeracy, high school English or humanities, exam preparation, or they’re simply looking for a boost in confidence, we’d love to welcome your family to Sage Tutor Northern Rivers.
